The Rhinos training camp moved up a gear on Tuesday and the sun finally shone on the engage Super League Champions. The day started with yet another early morning start. Each day the squad are up and about by 7am to have breakfast in the hotel which usually consists of omelettes or oatmeal porridge with toast and plenty of fresh fruit. The team meet up at 8.30am to make the short drive to the local Bally’s gym, just five minutes around the corner for a tough CV session with Head Conditioner Jason Davidson. Every player made a massive effort in the toughest session so far since the arrival in Florida. Following training the players had three hours to grab some lunch and then prepare for the afternoon session at the University of North Florida. For the session, the sun finally shone on the Rhinos as the temperature soared in Jacksonville. After the wet and cold of an English winter it was a chance for the Rhinos to feel the warmth of summer as they prepare for the defence of their title. Hydration is always important but especially so when in the type of heat that greeted Tuesday’s training. The coaching staff ensured that the players had regular breaks to take on liquids and keep their hydration levels up so they could perform at their maximum. Despite the heat, the Rhinos were quickly cooled down as every member of the squad had to spend time in an ice bath behind the dressing room. In the evening, the team and coaching staff had dinner together in the team hotel before team meeting. The chance to have a meeting after a full day together is something that is invaluable from these pre-season camps and it certainly proved worthwhile in this instance.
