Former Rhinos star Tonie Carroll has been named in a strong Brisbane Broncos side for this Friday’s Carnegie World Club Challenge. A brace of tries against Celtic Crusaders has earned rookie winger Steven Michaels a place in Brisbane Broncos’ team to play St Helens in Friday’s Carnegie World Club Challenge. The 20-year-old Michaels, who has made just seven appearances in the NRL, has been preferred to New Zealand international Tame Tupou after scoring four tries in two trial appearances. Michaels got the nod after he touched down twice against Queensland Cup team Central Comets on February 10th and then took his chance once again in the 32-6 win over the Crusaders last Thursday. "It was a very close decision," said Broncos coach Wayne Bennett. "I think that the conditions will suit Steve a little better and he has trialed very well." The team named by Bennett shows three enforced changes to the side that beat Melbourne 15-8 in October’s Grand Final. The Aussie champions have lost centre David Stagg through injury, while prop Shane Webcke has retired and utility player Casey McGuire has joined engage Super League Catalans Dragons. Michaels fills the three-quarter vacancy, with Karmichael Hunt switching to full-back, while Ben Hannant and Mick Ennis have landed places on the bench, with Corey Parker and Dane Carlaw promoted to the starting line-up. Carlaw has been given the chance to cement the Broncos number eight jersey vacated by Webcke.
