Leeds Rhinos are aiming to give local junior rugby a boost in South Leeds when Great Britain star Danny McGuire will attend a rugby festival on Thursday 8th February to see first hand the skills of young children from that area of the city. The Leeds Rhinos Community Staff have been working in partnership with Leeds South Sport Schools over the past term in the Rothwell side of Leeds. The Community Staff have been coaching in 9 schools for the past 5 weeks and now at the end of term, they are holding a tag rugby festival at Oulton Raiders Amateur Rugby Club on Thursday 8th February from 1.00pm-3.30pm and all the schools that have been coached in have entered the festival. In attendance on the afternoon will be Rhinos stars Danny McGuire and Carl Ablett as well as the Rhinos mascot Ronnie the Rhino. Commenting on the afternoon Rhinos community coach Jonny Wainhouse said, "The children have been great during our work in the schools and this is a great way for them to culminate all their efforts. Some children have been introduced to rugby for the first time and loved the experience. It is important for us that we include the local amateur club in the development programme because we want the children to continue to enjoy their rugby after the coaching course has ended. If we can boost the local schools and clubs that gives a long term legacy for the game and who knows, might produce the next Danny McGuire!"
