The Rhinos Junior Academy recorded their fourth victory in a row when they beat Hull 40-18 away at the weekend. Hull took an early lead after 8 minutes before Leeds hit straight back. Ben Kaye create the space for Liam Brown, who was on hand to force his way over in the corner and somehow touch down. The Rhinos then made it back to back tries when Benn Fawcett went through a huge hole in the Hull defence to burst clear. With only Richard Lamplough to beat Fawcett had Simon Brown on his inside and the loose forward went in under the posts. Briggs converted both tries to put the Rhinos 12-6 in front. Leeds were next on the board in the 25th minute, Gareth Moore (pictured) picking up a poor pass from the floor and finding Jodie Broughton on half way. The centre showed great strength to brush off his marker and set off down the touchline. Briggs converted to give the Rhinos a 12-point lead. The Rhinos crossed twice more before half time to hammer home their advantage. Firstly, good work by Moore, Kyle Briggs and Danny Allan set up James Archibald. The Leeds centre was in again shortly afterwards, this time supporting the break by David Leeke to score to make it 28-6 at half time. Once again Hull scored the first points of the half at the re-start and the Rhinos had to produce some outstanding defence to keep it to just one score. Then crucially Leeds got the next score after 59 minutes. Ben Kaye scooted from dummy half and had Ben Jones on the outside and the prop went in untouched. Briggs converted to put the Rhinos 34-12 in front. Hull never gave up and they hit back 5 minutes later but Leeds were to have the final say with 12 minutes to go and it was superb handling that created the opportunity. Ben Kaye, Liam Brown and James Archibald involved in the build up and Danny Allan was the man on the end to go over the line. Kyle Briggs added the extras to take the final score to 40-18 to the Rhinos. The SouthStander.com man of the match went to Gareth Moore. The Under 18’s are back in action next Sunday when they entertain the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats at Stanningley ARLFC. Kick off is 1pm. By Matthew Horton
