SENIOR'S LOSE OUT AFTER FIGHTBACK

The Senior Academy side lost 30-22 to Hull at Headingley Carnegie after coming back from 22-6 down at one stage in the second half.

This game was a clash of the top two in the Senior Academy and the first half was as even as the build up suggested. Hull had the better of the opening exchanges and took the lead after 17 minutes when centre Kirk Dixon forced his way over. Thomas Lee added the conversion to make it 6-0. However, the Rhinos soon hit back and after a couple of half chances levelled the score. Jordan Tansey made the incisive break before passing back on the inside to Tom Sheldrake (pictured) to cross for the try. Tansey added the conversion to make it 6-6. Luke Gale continued to grow in ascendency during the game and he was unlucky not to set up a try for Ryan Hall after the touch judge said his pass was fine but the score was ruled out by the referee to leave the scores level at half time. Hull were quickest out of the blocks at the start of the second half and stretched to a 22-6 lead with three quick fire tries, two of which came from centre Craig Hall, helped by some generous refereeing. However, the Rhinos finally found their feet with a try from Mark Watts, who forced his way over from dummy half. Tansey added the conversion to make it 22-12 and four minutes later Tom Sheldrake crossed for his second try of the night. The young Leeds fullback raced through from 40 metres out and appeared to be tackled on at least three occasions before breaking free and scoring. Tansey again adding the conversion. The comeback was complete six minutes later when Michael Brown forced his way over in the corner to make it 22-22. Tansey missed the conversion but the game was now back in the balance. However, there was still time left for the official to make a further impact in the game and Hull re-took the lead with six minutes remaining from a penalty 40 metres out. The Rhinos tried hard to get a winning try and conceded a late score to slip to only their third defeat of the season.
