Teenager Ashley Gibson is set to make his full debut for Leeds Rhinos on the ground where he first came to the attention of Rhinos fans seven months ago. Gibson, 19, has been named in Tony Smith’s initial 20 man squad for this Sunday’s Powergen Challenge Cup Fourth Round tie at Leigh Centurions, kick off 3pm, and the Rhinos boss has indicated that the former Stanningley amateur will get his first start for the club in the game. Gibson will become the latest member of the Rhinos highly successful Academy system to get their chance to impress under Tony Smith. Young winger Lee Smith was elevated to the starting line up this season whilst Carl Ablett, Danny Williams and Jordan Tansey have all made their full debuts already this season. Add to that second row Ian Kirke, who was given his chance in Super League by Smith after impressing in the National Leagues with York City Knights, and the Rhinos conveyor belt of young talent is in full swing. Gibson made a one off appearance for the Rhinos last season as a replacement. However, he scored 22 points in the game, also at Leigh, in August, scoring a hat trick in 21 minutes and kicking five goals. Commenting on his inclusion this week Tony Smith said, "Ashley has been playing well in the Senior Academy and he deserves his chance in the first team this week. We have not decided on the final make up of the side but Ashley will be in the starting line up. "With Danny Williams, Carl Ablett, Jordan Tansey and Ian Kirke already having impressed this season, Ashley will be keen to go out there and perform. He is a very gifted player and I am sure he will benefit from stepping up to first team level this week." The 20 man squad in full is: 1. Richard Mathers 2. Scott Donald 3. Chev Walker 4. Keith Senior 5. Lee Smith 6. Danny McGuire 7. Rob Burrow 8. Ryan Bailey 9. Matt Diskin 10. Jamie Peacock 11. Ali Lauitiiti 12. Gareth Ellis 13. Kevin Sinfield (C) 14. Shane Millard 16.
