Leeds Rhinos captain Kevin Sinfield will be hoping his fellow students at Leeds Metropolitan University can follow in his footsteps and gain Grand Final glory in Wednesday’s SRL BUSA Grand Final. Sinfield, who led the Rhinos to Super League Grand Final success in 2004, is currently in his second year of a Sports Science degree along with several of his Rhinos team mates at the Carnegie Faculty of Sport and Education at Leeds Metropolitan University. The Leeds Met team is coached by former Leeds player Paul Fletcher, who combines his role with the Rhinos with his position as Director of Rugby League at Leeds Met. Great Britain international commented, "I would like to wish Paul Fletcher and the team the best of luck for the Grand Final. I know they have worked hard all year to reach this occasion and I’m sure they will do Leeds Met and the City of Leeds proud in the Grand Final. "Student Rugby League is thriving across the entire country and I’m sure the Grand Final will be of a high standard. Grand Finals are great occasions at any level and I’m sure the Leeds Met lads will go out there and give their all on their big day." Leeds Met will face Loughborough in the SRL BUSA Grand Final. Loughborough disposed of UWIC with a clinical performance, winning 50-20; while Leeds Met earned their place in the SRL BUSA Grand Final with a 44-10 victory over reigning champions St Mary’s University College, Twickenham. Leeds Met and GB Students head coach Paul Fletcher openly acknowledged his relief after the semi final. He said: "We lost at the same stage last year to St Mary’s so although we were confident approaching the game we also had a fair degree of nervousness. "But I’m delighted for the boys. They have put in a tremendous amount of effort and hard work this year. We train four times a week and they deserve the reward of playing in the SRL BUSA Grand Final." Student Rugby League manager Matt Jeffery said: "The Student Rugby League BUSA Grand Final will be another tremendous occasion. "The two best teams in the country have made it to this annual showpiece and I am sure the event will be a credit to the student game. "The beauty of the Grand Final concept means that the last game of the season decides the SRL Champions – both sides are in a ‘do or die’ situation which should make for a tremendously exhilarating encounter." The SRL BUSA Grand Final will be staged at New River Stadium, home of the London Skolars, on Wednesday, 29 March (6:00pm), admission £5.
