The Senior Academy got off to a flying start last night as they produced a sensational second half showing to defeat Warrington 60-14 at Wilderspool. With a mere four point gap between the sides after forty minutes, the stage at Wilderspool seemed set for an equally tight second half, but a shock was in store for the Wolves as Leeds clicked straight into overdrive. A Scott Murrell hat trick set the tone, with Liam Botham and Lee Smith both notching a pair of touchdowns, whilst there was one apiece for Richard Mathers, Peter Fox and John Gallagher. Botham took on the kicking duties on a freezing night to land nine successful shots, Murrell finding the mark with one. Warrington, with tries to Jamie Durbin and ex-Wigan hooker Andy Crabtree, together with a trio of Nick Owen goals, worked hard to stem the tide but found the Rhinos in especially scintillating form during that second period, and clearly intent on laying down a marker for the rest of the season.
