So far in 2024...

Saturday's clash is the second meeting between Catalans and Leeds this season after Rohan Smith's side edged out the Dragons in an 18-10 contest at AMT Headingley back in round three.

Starting the 2024 season at home, Catalans got their campaign underway with a 16-10 win over Warrington, thanks to four goals and a try from Arthur Mourgue, plus a try on debut from Jordan Abdull, before they ran six tries passed London Broncos in a 34-0 triumph. The win came in the wake of McNamara signing a new deal to stay at the club until 2026, and captain Ben Garcia swiftly followed afterwards as he agreed a deal of the same length.

Defeat to Leeds on the road sparked a run of five straight wins in Super League as Hull and Castleford both succumbed to losses in Perpignan, before McNamara's side fended off competition from top-of-the-table rivals Warrington Wolves, St Helens and Hull KR in impressive results either side of defeat to Huddersfield in the Challenge Cup. English wingers Tom Davies and Tom Johnstone in particular have been weapons on the edges; Davies has seven tries in all competitions this year, whilst 2023 Man of Steel nominee Johnstone has four. The pair also have the most metres and post-contact metres amongst the Dragons side.

The last two Super League rounds have seen the Dragons lose out to Leigh and Wigan, drawing them into a six-team battle in the league table. Heading into this week's game, the Dragons rank fifth on points difference alone as they are level on 14 league points with Wigan, Warrington, St Helens, Hull KR and Salford who have also won seven matches and lost three after ten rounds.

Squad

One to Watch

Ben Garcia

Ben Garcia hopes this season is third time lucky as the Catalans skipper sets his expectations on a return back to Old Trafford. The long-serving French international has been a key part of McNamara's side since their rise up the table in recent years, and leads the line particularly in defence. So far in 2024, he has the most tackles by a Catalans player (298) and the 13th most in the competition.

His sole try came in the win over Warrington at the end of March.

Chris Satae

Prop Satae is best known around Super League for his highlight carries and line breaks with Hull FC, but transferred his talents to Catalans for the 2024 season. As head coach McNamara revamped his forward pack during the off-season, Satae's acquisition came alongside Bayley Sironen and Tariq Sims flying in from the NRL, and the Tongan international has proved a significant purchase as he's returned 10 offloads and 35 tackle breaks.

Theo Fages

Alongside Satae, half back Theo Fages signed from Huddersfield in the wake of Mitchell Pearce and Sam Tomkins departing the Stade Gilbert Brutus. Before signing with the Giants, Fages was best known for his time in a St Helens shirt where he won two Grand Finals in 2019 and 2020 and a Challenge Cup in 2021. Despite being one of three new faces to pick from in the key pivot positions, along with Jayden Nikorima and Jordan Abdull, he has only missed two league games, one of which was the loss to Wigan last time out.
