Top Five Super League Moments vs Castleford Tigers

It's Rivals Round this weekend in the Betfred Super League and we have got a massive West Yorkshire derby in store when we travel to  the Mend-A-Hose Jungle to face Castleford Tigers on Thursday.

Ahead of the match, here is a trip down memory lane with a look back at five of the top moments from previous Super League clashes between the sides.

5. 2019- Leeds claim first win in four years at Mend-A-Hose Jungle

Having not won at the Mend-A-Hose in four years, the Rhinos continued their rise up the Super League table with a 18-10 win over their local rivals. In a tight matchup, Trent Merrin and Jack Walker both got their names on the scoresheet early, along with Liam Sutcliffe who kicked three goals, as well as Rob Lui, who had debuted for the Rhinos a week earlier against Catalans.

4. 2012 – Jones-Bishop break helps Hall to hat trick

One of Leeds’ highest try scorers against Castleford in Super League is Ryan Hall and the winger was on fire when the two sides clashed in 2012. Hall scored a hat trick in the 36-14 result to take his tally for the season to seven tries, while there was also tries from Danny McGuire, a length of the field effort from Kallum Watkins and a try for Liam Hood.

3. 2011- Rhinos record biggest away win over Tigers

Leeds ran rampant against Castleford throughout the 2011 season, scoring a total of 104 points against the Tigers in Super League and conceding only six points. Meeting at the Jungle in round 13, the Rhinos welcomed back Jamie Peacock and Danny McGuire after lengthy lay offs due to knee injuries and the prop was on hand to set up McGuire for the try of the match as the Rhinos won 48-6. It is the Rhinos’ largest win over Castleford at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle to this date.

2. 2003- Dunemann strikes late to seal one point win

During the 2003 season, hooker Andrew Dunemann was called upon twice to win games with a drop goal and one of those matches was Leeds’ trip to Castleford. The Rhinos fought back late as Chev Walker scored in the corner to level the scores, but after a break by Rob Burrow, Dunemann was on hand to slot the goal and win the game and keep Leeds’ unbeaten start to the season intact.

1. 2009- Sinfield snatches last second victory with penalty goal

One of the most memorable matches between Leeds and Castleford came in 2009. Horrific weather conditions hampered the teams throughout the eighty minutes but the Rhinos came out on top, thanks to a last minute penalty goal from Kevin Sinfield, after the Tigers picked up the ball in an offside position.
