Rhinos Rewind: Castleford Tigers

Ahead of Leeds Rhinos and Castleford Tigers kicking off Rivals Round on Thursday night at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle, we've gone into the archives to pull out a clash for the ages between the two clubs, and a player that represented both the Tigers and Rhinos during their careers.

Take a look...

Classic Clash

It may not be one of the oldest clashes between Leeds and Castleford, but the 2021 meeting between the two sides was one of the Rhinos best performances at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle as they tore through the home side in a 60-6 win.

Nine different try scorers contributed to eleven tries on the way to victory for Leeds, but it was Konrad Hurrell's chip-and-chase try that stole the show in the second half.

Legend in Focus - Andy Hay

Forward Andy Hay started his career with Castleford in the early 1990s and became a regular in black and amber under John Joyner in 1993, making 15 starts and scoring seven tries. During his time at the club, he won the Yorkshire Cup and Regal Trophy before moving to Sheffield Eagles.

Moving to Leeds, Hay was part of Graham Murray's mobile and powerful pack. He featured off the bench in 1998 Grand Final, as well as the 1999 Challenge Cup Final win over London Broncos in a season that saw him finish with eleven tries in 32 appearances (the most scored by a Leeds forward in 1999).

The turn of the millennium saw Hay have another memorable campaign as he scored in the 2000 Challenge Cup final defeat to Bradford and was also selected for the England World Cup squad at the end of the campaign. He left the club in 2003.
