Dogcast Episode Eight – Tony Smith
In his latest edition of Dogcast, Leeds Rhinos star Brad Dwyer chats to former Leeds Rhinos, Great Britain and England Head Coach Tony Smith, who gave him his debut at Warrington Wolves.
The Hull KR Head Coach talks about his playing career and how he first got into coaching having watched his older brother Brian in his early years. Smith talks about his move to England and the role he played in bringing success to the Leeds Rhinos. Brad Dwyer follows on from last week’s Dogcast with Chev Walker, who talked so warmly about Smith and the impact he had on him when he first arrived at the club, and gets Smith’s take on that pivotal period.
Both men speak with great honesty about their time together at Warrington Wolves too. Dwyer had hoped his path to regular first team action would come when senior players retired but the arrival of Man of Steel Daryl Clark, signed by Smith, made him re-access what he was doing and the pair remember a particularly embarrassing moment for Dwyer when he nearly missed a flight to a pre-season training camp.
Smith, the most experienced coach in Super League, gives a fascinating insight into his views on the game and has a very interesting answer a question about his greatest moment in the sport.
