Match Preview: Leeds Rhinos Women v Castleford Tigers Women

Leeds Rhinos Women will take on Castleford Tigers in their second game at Emerald Headingley this season on Saturday 17th August, kick off 1pm.

In a rematch of last month’s Women’s Challenge Cup Final, Adam Cuthbertson’s team will be hoping to make it three league wins in a row as they aim to keep up the pressure at the top of the table.  They will face tough opposition against a Tigers side who are unbeaten in the league and who currently sit at the top of the table.

The Rhinos are in third spot and have lost only twice this season to St Helens and Castleford.  They notched up 52 points in their last game against Featherstone and for the fourth time this season kept their opponents scoreless.

Head Coach Adam Cuthbertson said: “We’ve had a big couple of weeks, coming off the back off of a bit if a hangover from the Challenge Cup Final and then suffering a big injury in the team last week, which hurt us a bit physically and emotionally, so we needed a really good response against a tough Featherstone opposition and I think we got that and it puts us in a good position for the rest of the Super League season.

“It will be really exciting for the girls to play at Emerald Headingley, the facilities are unreal and it will be good for the girls to get that chance to have that opportunity and play in front of a really big crowd.  It’s the Challenge Cup Final rematch against Castleford so hopefully we get a good crowd and people come along to support us.”

The day will also be a celebration Women’s Rugby League and Leeds Rhinos Foundation is offering local girls teams the opportunity to take part in pre-match activity on the Emerald Headingley pitch.

Players from U14 and U16s girls teams will be participating in a training exhibition before the U12s players will take part in a rugby league festival.

Any girl playing primary Rugby League is also invited to be a player escort and walk out with a player for each team. For anyone interested in their child doing this please email lois.forsell@leedsrhinosfoundation.org.

Juniors (16-years and younger) are free and do not require a ticket. All other tickets are £5.
