Leeds Rhinos will face Castleford Tigers for a 3 game series titled ‘The Clash’ in 2019, with two of the three Betred Super League fixtures taking place at Emerald Headingley Stadium and the third and final meeting taking place at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.

Following the success of the Rhinos record-breaking Super League attendance at The Clash in 2018, which saw 23,246 fans attend the local derby at Elland Roach last March, The Clash has been revived for 2019 for all 3 Super League meetings between the two local sides this season.

Last year’s Clash at Elland Road was a nail biting affair which saw the Rhinos fight back from 24-0, but fall agonisingly short when Kallum Watkins’ conversion attempt drifted wide with just two minutes to go and the Tigers held on for a 25-24 win.

The rivalry between these two clubs has flourished in recent years. The Rhinos ended their long wait to lift the Challenge Cup back in 2014 when Kevin Sinfield finally got his hands on the famous old trophy following a memorable 23-10 win at Wembley over former Head Coach Daryl Powell and his Castleford team. 2017 saw the Tigers dominate Super League sitting atop of the table for the majority of the season, however, hardened by their experience, the Rhinos came firing back at Old Trafford and claimed their record eighth Super League title. Despite their renewed Champions status, 2018 saw Leeds suffer in all 3 meetings against their local rivals and now the stage is set for this rivalry to reignite in The Clash for 2019.

The first meeting takes place on Thursday 28th March at Emerald Headingley Stadium, kick off 7.45pm. The second match of the series also takes place at Emerald Headingley and is already set to be a huge occasion as the club officially open the new-look stadium with the completed North Stand development on Thursday 16th May. Tickets for both fixtures at Emerald Headingley will go on general sale at 9am on Monday 14th January at 9am with tickets available to buy online at tickets.therhinos.co.uk, over the phone on 0371 423 1315 and in person from the Club Shop at Emerald Headingley Stadium. All remaining home Super League games will go on general sale on Monday 21st January at 9am.

The final game in The Clash series will be hosted by the Tigers at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle on Sunday 7th July, kick off 3.30pm.

Speaking on the back of last year’s successful campaign at Elland Road, Leeds Rhinos Chief Executive Gary Hetherington said: “Last year’s occasion at Elland Road was a fantastic advert for our sport. It provided us with the unique opportunity to take a Super League match on the road to another iconic sporting venue in Leeds and put on a real spectacle for all fans to enjoy. The match day presentation and incredible atmosphere from last year’s event is something we can build on in 2019, reigniting The Clash for a three game series to make it bigger and better than before. It is an exciting time at Emerald Headingley with the phenomenal £45m re-development. Everything about the new-look stadium is first class and we’re looking forward to providing a match day of even better calibre and prestige than last year’s Clash, in both our home derbies against our fierce rivals at Castleford.”
