Ben has been involved as a Sports Scientist at Leeds Rhinos for 10 years, primarily working with academy players. He was recently promoted to a Professor at Leeds Beckett University, as recognition for his research.

Ben completed his PhD in 2013, investigating the hydration status of rugby players. Since then, he has undertaken a large amount of research in rugby, publishing over 110 scientific research articles, primarily with Leeds Rhinos. His research covers various areas including; the demands of matches, the physical development and nutritional requirement of rugby players, and how to plan an optimise training. Ben frequently presents his research around the world, and also undertakes research with Yorkshire Carnegie, the RFL, the RFU and World Rugby.
