Rhinos and Tigers fans hoping to re-write the record books

Leeds Rhinos and Castleford Tigers fans are hoping to play their part in making history tonight as their two sides meet at Elland Road aiming to break the Super League attendance record for a single regular season game, which is currently held by Wigan.
The Warriors attracted 25,004 fans to their clash with St Helens at the DW Stadium back in 2005 but the record is now under threat following a huge surge in ticket sales this week.
Fans are still able to buy tickets for the game plus spectators can pay on the night at the Leeds United West Stand ticket office to make sure they do no miss out on their place in history.
This year marks 30 years since the same two sides met at Elland Road in the Yorkshire Cup Final when 22,968 fans were present and that figure has already been surpassed in pre-sales. The Rhinos own Super League record crowd was set 15 years ago when 23,035 fans were at Emerald Headingley for the derby clash with Bradford Bulls in 2003.
With a crowd of over 20,000 already now assured, the game will mark only the 15th time in 50 years that Leeds have attracted a crowd in excess of 20,000 for a ‘home’ league regular season fixture. The highest crowd in the last 50 years was the Division One clash with Wigan at Emerald Headingley in 1990.
The full list of 20,000 plus crowds for league games since 1968 at Emerald Headingley is as follows:

20,000 plus crowds for league fixtures were rare in the two decades before the switch to summer rugby. In the twenty seasons between 1974-75 and 1994-95, there were just fourteen 20,000 plus crowds for a league fixture, half of which were for the traditional Wigan v St Helens game at Central Park. Since the summer era, there have been a remarkable 44 regular season Super League games that have attracted over 20,000 fans with Hull FC and Bradford joining Leeds and Wigan in attracting bumper crowds.
