As we count down to the World Club Challenge against Melbourne Storm on Friday 16th February, we are counting down each day with 50 of the most memorable moments for the club against Australian sides down the years from Kangaroos to Cowboys.

36. First ever game in Australia

It seems remarkable now, given the part Leeds played in the formation of the game in 1895, that it took over 100 years for the club to play their first ever game in Australia back in 1997 when they took part in the ill-fated World Club Championship.

The first ever game was at North Queensland Cowboys as Dean Bell took his side to the tropical weather of Townsville.

Leeds were hoping to get Super League’s first win in the competition after Brisbane had defeated London and St Helens had lost to Auckland and they were still in the game at half time as they trailed 26-10 at the break.

However, the local conditions got the better of them after the break as the Cowboys ran clear and eventually won 42-20.

Win a trip to Melbourne

As part of our Season Members Appreciation Week, Leeds Rhinos are giving away a fantastic prize – a week long trip to Melbourne for one lucky 2018 Season Member to watch the Rhinos in action in the World Club Challenge against NRL Premiers Melbourne Storm on Friday 16th February.

This prize, generously provided by our travel partners Glory Days, includes return travel and hotel accommodation as well as well as a ticket to the game along with match day hospitality.

If you’ve already purchased your 2018 Season Membership, you don’t need to do anything to enter the prize draw as all Season Members are included. If you sign up for a 2018 Season Membership before 5pm on Thursday 11th January, you’ll also be entered into the draw for the trip.

The winner of the trip to Melbourne will be selected at random and notified on Friday 12th January, to conclude a week of prize giveaways to thank all our 2018 Season Members for showing their support for the Rhinos ahead of the upcoming Super League season.

Glory Days are offering two brilliant packages to the World Club Challenge, both of which include exclusive events to meet the players out in Melbourne as well as other Rugby League personalities, and watch the team train ahead of the massive clash against the Storm.

Fans wanting to book with Glory Days can either choose to spend nine days in Melbourne, departing on Saturday 10th February, leaving Melbourne on Sunday 18th February to return to the UK. The fully escorted trip includes economy international flights, airport transfers, match tickets, exclusive tour merchandise and a number of exclusive Rhinos events throughout the week that no other organised tour will have access to. The nine days, seven nights trip is from £2,200 per person, based on two people sharing, and includes four-star accommodation with breakfast each day. There is a £600 single room supplement.

Alternatively, if you fancy a two-city trip, Glory Days are providing an option to depart on Tuesday 13th February arriving in Melbourne on Valentine’s Day. You will have three nights in Melbourne, including watching the World Club Challenge, before heading off to Sydney the next day to see Wigan and Hull FC take on South Sydney Rabbitohs and St George Illawarra in a double-header at ANZ Stadium. This package is ten days and eight nights in total and costs from £2,400 per person, based on two people sharing or there is a £700 single room supplement.
