LS16 Ambassador Raises £1,394 for Local Community Centre

An official Ambassador has utilised his close links with Leeds Rhinos and the Foundation to raise a substantial amount of money for a local Community Cafe.  Russell Fox heads up the LS16 supporter group based out of Tinshill & Cookridge Social Club as well as being a Business Ambassador at Morrisons branch in Rothwell.  After actively selling raffling tickets and fielding bids for a signed 2015 framed Kevin Sinfield shirt from his personal stash, his fundraising culminated in a large event in July attended by Leeds Rhinos players Stevie Ward and Mikolaj Oledzki as well as Ronnie the Rhino.  All money raised on the evening was fund matched by local Business Ambassadors the Halifax as well as Morrisons, culminating in a grand total donation of £1,394.

This was all to help support and raise money for local charity OPAL who have recently transformed the former The Bedford Arms into the Welcome In Community Café.  All monies raised will contribute to OPAL’s mission to support vulnerable people and tackle social isolation.  For more information on the great work that OPAL do, please visit http://www.opal-project.org.uk/.

Sally-Anne, the Volunteer Co-ordinator and dementia support worker at Welcome In, said “We are very appreciative and grateful for the donation and the hard work that Russell put in to raising this money. It will be going towards continuing the renovation of the Welcome In which provides a much need community space in the local area and tackles social isolation in Leeds 16.  We would also like to thank Leeds Rhinos Foundation and the Rhinos for their ongoing support provided, especially Gary Hetherington, CEO, who volunteers his own time each month to help out behind the counter in the Café.”

Russell Fox, says “A special thanks to all LS16 supporter group members and Morrisons in Rothwell for buying tickets and supporting OPAL.  It is great to be able to support such a wonderful local charity, with a huge thanks to Martin and BJ from Artworks in Otley who framed the signed Kevin Sinfield shirt and several other raffle items for free. We also wouldn’t be able to donate such a large amount if it wasn’t for the charity fund matching available through Morrisons and the Halifax.”

Dan Busfield, Ambassador Scheme Manager adds “We are extremely thankful to Russell and all his Ambassador members in supporting such a great local community project.  The Ambassador Scheme is all about working to bring people together in communities within Leeds and beyond.  This is a great example of how Leeds Rhinos and the Foundation are changing lives through sport.”
