Headingley Carnegie Insight

In this weeks edition of Headingley Carnegie Insight Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Brian McDermott looks ahead to Friday’s game at Warrington.

HOW IS YOUR SQUAD SHAPING UP?

We are in a good place at the moment. We have had some adversity this year and we have pulled together as a unit because of it. There is a great deal of belief within the squad and we go to Warrington looking to build on our previous performances. We will hopefully have Carl Ablett back available for us. He has been a big player for us this year and we have missed him in the last two games. He has to undergo some tests on his head injury but hopefully he will be cleared to return on Friday. Unfortunately Kallum Watkins is not quite fit yet but we are in good shape considering where we are in the season.

HOW HIGHLY DO YOU RATE WARRINGTON?

I think they have done some great stuff this season. They are obviously well coached by Tony Smith and they have attacking threats across their side. But their defence is also incredible so they have all bases covered. They have shown on numerous occasions that they can tear teams apart if you allow them the opportunity to do that and we are wary of those threats. They are at home and have had a fortnight to prepare for this game so they will be confident.

HOW ARE YOU APPROACHING THIS GAME?

We are only eighty minutes away from Old Trafford and that is a massive motivation for us. After everything that has been thrown at this team during the season we know how close we are to getting to a Grand Final. We know we face a big challenge against a Warrington side who have already beaten us twice this season but that is what you want at this time of the year. If you are fortunate enough to line up in the tunnel for a Grand Final, you want to know you have earned it and that is what we will be trying to do on Friday night.
