Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Brian McDermott says the emergence of a number of players from the club’s Academy this week into the first team squad has given all the group a lift.

McDermott will be without 13 first team players for Friday’s trip but he says the enthusiasm that Harvey Whiteley, Harry Newman and Alex Sutcliffe have brought to training this week has been a timely boost after a tough 22 rounds of the campaign so far.

The Rhinos boss also paid tribute to Rob Burrow after he announced his plans to retire at the end of the current campaign.
