Huddersfield were full of confidence going into this c;lash having climbed above the Rhinos over the Easter weekend into second place. Under new coach Nathan Brown they have looked a much improved outfit however they handed possession to the Champions in the first minute of the game. Captain Brett Hodgson failed to hold Kevin Sinfield's kick off and two tackles later from the ensuing scrum a cut out ball from Matt Diskin sent Brent Webb through the gap to score between the posts. Sinfield added the conversion to make it 6-0 after two minutes.

Both teams produce some quality phases in the opening exchanges between the teams with Huddersfield showing why they have become dark horses to reach Old Trafford this season. However, it was the Rhinos who scored next when Sinfield kicked a penalty from 25 metres out after Carl Ablett was tackled without the ball by Leroy Cudjoe after 15 minutes.

Sinfield extended that lead six minutes later when Webb was taken out as he chased through a high kick. He added the penalty to extend the lead to 10-0.

The whistle of referee Richard Silverwood dominated the rest of the half as he penalised both sides heavily for a stream offences, mainly around the ruck area. Huddersfield went close to a try when Darrell Griffin charged onto Scott Moore's short pass but he could not hold on as he went over the line.

However, it was the Rhinos who scored next and it came from a 40:20 kick from Sinfield. The Rhinos are making a habit of kicking the long range touch finder and with possession deep in Giants territory it seemed only a question of time before Leeds crossed. Good work by Danny McGuire created the space before Keith Senior powered through and passed to his winger to score. Sinfield added the touchline conversion for good measure to make it 16-0after 38 minutes.

Leeds then scored with the last play of the half to seal a perfect response to any doubters in the crowd. Having gained a penalty in their own half, the Rhinos cleared down field and from the tap restart Ali Lauitiiti crashed through to put Huddersfield on the back foot. SInfield had the presence of mind to spot the chance and offloaded to McGuire to score between the posts. Sinfield added the conversion to make it 22-0 at the break.

Just as in the first half, Webb crossed after just a minute of kick off to extend the Rhinos lead. Sinfield was the creator as he arced across the face of the home defence before bursting through the gap and popping up a pass for Webb to score. He added the conversion to make it 28-0.

The Giants did get a try back soon after when Luke Robinson ran between Ryan Bailey and Luke Burgess before offloading to Michael Lawrence to score. Brett Hodgson added the conversion to make it 28-6 after 47 minutes.

The Rhinos had a lucky escape with 15 minutes to go when Webb misjudged the bounce of Robinson's through kick but Lawrence was unable to control the ball and he knocked it out of play with the try line at his mercy.

Once again Huddersfield were left to rue that missed opportunity as the Rhinos crossed for their fifth try after 70 minutes. Matt Diskin had his pass to Jamie Peacock knocked down by Stephen Wild but the ball bounced back into the path of Diskin who went over for the try. Sinfield added the conversion to make it 34-6 to the Champions.

Video referee Thierry Alibert was called upon to adjudicate on the Diskin try and then soon after on an effort by Paul Whatuira. However, the replay showed that Kevin Brown knocked on as he attempted to offload and the score was ruled out and that proved to be the last chance for the home side to gain some consolation as the Rhinos moved back above the Giants in the engage Super League table.
