Salford City Reds 0 Leeds Rhinos 44

12th April 2004

By Leeds Rhinos

Leeds Rhinos remained the only unbeaten team in Tetley’s Super League IX following a 44-0 win at Salford City Reds.

Leeds led 14-0 after a tight first half, but kept a second clean sheet in the space of eight days and added six further tries.
The Rhinos withstood early pressure from the home side before turning up the heat on Karl Harrison’s side.

Andrew Dunemann's long pass on 19 minutes put Chev Walker through to touch down.  They added a second score six minutes later, with Chris Feather sending Chris McKenna crashing over, Kevin Sinfield’s conversion making it 10-0.

Marcus Bai was next to cross the whitewash, reacting well to good runs by Dunemann and Mathers.  Leeds took just three minutes to get on the scoreboard after the restart, McGuire's cut-out pass allowing Bai to step inside Karl Fitzpatrick and touch down for his second score.

The lead was extended to 22-0 soon afterwards, with Mark Calderwood putting Willie Poching in at the corner after Walker's break.  Liam Botham was unable to convert either try on his first appearance of the year.

Leeds added a sixth try on 65 minutes, with Dunemann dummying and powering his way between Malcolm Alker and Chris Charles to the line, Sinfield adding the goal.

The Rhinos attacked straight from the kick off, with McGuire moving the ball right to allow Calderwood to race 80 yards up the wing, and this time he made no mistake by touching down.

McGuire added another to his season's tally with ten minutes remaining, supporting Willie Poching's break to stroll over under the posts.

Sinfield's goal put them 40-0 up and Walker added his second soon afterwards from McGuire's inside pass to complete the scoring.
