30th March 2007

By Leeds Rhinos

Leeds cruised through the Fourth Round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup with a emphatic win over Workington with a 13 try win including four tries from Scott Donald and a hat trick from Rob Burrow.

Donald crossed for his first inside the first minute when Gibson freed his arms in the tackle to set the winger away to race down the touchline and score. Sinfield added the conversion to make it 6-0.

Ali Lauitiiti then put Jordan Tansey in for a try with a one handed offload before Matt Diskin spotted a massive gap out wide and he throw a looping pass to Donald who had the simplest of jobs to score his second try. Sinfield added his second conversion to make it 16-0 after 17 minutes.

Two minutes later Donald completed his hat trick after Rob Burrow made the break from his own half before McGuire sent him away for his fourth soon after. Sinfield converted the latter to make it 26-0 after just 22 minutes.

McGuire was again the creator for the next score for Tansey to score his second try then, with four minutes remaining in the half, Kevin Sinfield crossed between the posts to give himself a routine conversion to make it 36-0.

The Rhinos were in determined mood and forced a drop out with seconds remaining. Ashley Gibson collected the ball 26 metres out as the hooter went but he had no hesitation and tip toed his way down the touchline before kicking back in field with the outside of his boot. Burrow pushed McGuire aside to get to the ball and touch down between the posts. Sinfield’s conversion made the half time score 42-0.

It only took a minute for the Rhinos to extend their lead through Lauitiiti, off good work by Ablett before Leeds scored the try of the night next.

The move started from behind Leeds’ own line. Tansey stopped a grubber kick in the corner before flinging a pass back inside to Donald. He weighed up his option then went on an arcing run across the face of the defence before bursting through a gap. He raced clear to the 40 metre line before drawing the last man and putting Burrow away for the score. Sinfield’s conversion made it 54-0 after 45 minutes.

It was not long before the Rhinos brought up the 60 mark and it came from Carl Ablett. Sinfield’s conversion making it 60-0 after 54 minutes.

The visitors were reduced to 12 men after 65 minutes when Dean Burgess was sin binned for a needless professional foul on Matt Diskin and the Leeds hooker soon made him pay as he went over from dummy half for the Rhinos next try.

Two minutes later Lee Smith made a great break down the North Stand touchline before passing back inside to Burrow to score between the posts. Burrow had taken over kicking after Sinfield had gone off for a rest and he converted both tries to make it 72-0 after 67 minutes.

Workington to their credit continued to play and scored two late tries through Stephen Dawes and Darryn King to send their fans home happy.
