Leeds Rhinos 36 Bradford Bulls 26

1st July 2005

By Leeds Rhinos

The Rhinos won the West Yorkshire derby for the fifth game running in the regular season with a clinical performance midway through the second half to seal a 36-26 win.

Keith Senior gave the Rhinos the best possible start within two minutes. The Rhinos gained possession in the Bulls 20 metre area after Robbie Paul knocked on. Chev Walker went close before play was switched and Senior powered his way over in the corner. Sinfield added the touchline.

On 13 minutes Peacock forced his way over from the quick tap. However, Deacon could not add the conversion and Leeds still led 6-4 after 15 minutes.

The Rhinos hit straight back through Jamie Jones-Buchanan after Ryan Bailey earned a penalty from Ian Henderson. Leeds took the tap and mounting pressure told as Jones-Buchanan burst his way over the line from close range.
However, the Bulls were back within two points six minutes later when Paul Johnson collected Paul Deacon's grubber kick to score.

Great work by Mark Calderwood set up the next try, he spotted a massive gap in the Bulls defence and raced for the line before passing to Sinfield, who offloaded to the still alert Calderwood, he passed to McGuire who scored under the posts and give Sinfield a routine conversion to make it 18-10.

Danny Ward then produced a great 30 metre break before passing to McGuire to race in for the try. Sinfield converting.
The Bulls then hit back through Ben Harris which signalled the return of Sinfield who supported Ellis’ break to re-establish the Rhinos lead. Sinfield found Senior who powered in from ten metres out.

The Rhinos applied the killer touch a minute later when Rob Burrow put Ali Lauitiiti through a gap in front of the posts and Sinfield's conversion made it 36-14.

However, Bradford were not dead yet and replied with two quick fire tries from Brad Meyers and Paul Johnson to bring the Bulls back within ten points.

However, the fightback was killed off in the final moments when Iestyn Harris found himself in the sin bin for a swinging arm into the face of Danny McGuire as he lay on the ground.
