24th March 2005

By Leeds Rhinos

Leeds Rhinos produced an awesome showing at Odsal, destroying their local rivals by 7 tries to 2 and clocking up the Bulls heaviest defeat at Odsal in the summer era.

Bradford’s early pressure eventually told when after 7 minutes Karl Pryce latched onto a loose pass to intercept and race 35 metres to score under the posts. Paul Deacon added the conversion to make it 6-0.

Rhinos finally gained some field position and Andrew Dunemann was allowed to crab his way across the field before slipping out of a tackle from Paul Deacon and putting over Chev Walker, Sinfield’s goal levelling the score.

Mark Calderwood then had a try disallowed by video ref Steve Cross after Barrie McDermott was judged to have knocked on as he collided with the post.

Leeds then moved to the posts, Danny Ward fed Mathers who put a fantastic pass to Gareth Ellis to score under the posts after 37 minutes, Sinfield’s conversion making it 12-6 at half time.

The Bulls were straight back into the game at the start of the second half when Stuart Reardon got the nod from the video ref for his try in the corner however Deacon could not convert. However, he did add a penalty to level the score at 12-12 after 46 minutes.

Quick hands by Dunemann, Lauitiiti and Senior released Bai down the left and he drew the cover before sending Senior over.

Leeds extended their lead two minutes later when Sinfield carved open the Bulls defence before finding Liam Botham, the substitute then expertly timed a pass to Burrow for the scrum half to scamper over from 10 metres out, Sinfield’s conversion making it 24-12.

The Rhinos captain then scored a converted try of his own after a brilliant break by Gareth Ellis.  The Rhinos then extended their lead when Mark Calderwood scored via the video ref.

The Rhinos then passed the 40 point mark with Burrow scoring his second try when he supported a break by Senior to race clear from 20 metres out. Sinfield added the conversion to give him a perfect 7 from 7 for the night and seal a memorable win for the Rhinos.
