In his exclusive weekly column Jamie Jones-Buchanan reveals the current baby boom at the Rhinos and gives his views on Tony Smith's appointment by the RFL.
Good News and Good Spirits Congratulations from everyone at Headingley Carnegie to Matt Diskin and his wife Gaynor on the birth of their baby boy. Their latest addition is big talk in the changing rooms as there are a number of players enjoying the baby boom currently sweeping the club... The other big talking point this week is the great news of Tony Smith's appointment as the new GB coach. Although this will be a big loss to the Rhinos at the end of the season, it is a massive boost for the national team whose next major engagement is the "Gillette Fusion" Test series, at the end of the year in New Zealand. (Luckily for Tony it's not in the West Indies) Preparations for Workington and the big road to Wembley started this week with a tough Monday morning session, which included fitness and yoyo testing (modified bleep test). The fact that I practice going backwards and forwards helping old ladies across the road in my spare time (according to SS.COM; not that I read anything counter productive, but that doesn't stop Thackray coming in and telling me anyway) may have contributed to me, like many other lads getting a PB and finishing 2nd to the mighty Rob Burrow. So with the lads in great spirit and physical shape, this weeks Challenge cup kick off looks promising. God Bless JJB
