Former Rhinos star Richard Mathers has been ruled out for the rest of the NRL season after suffering a severe knee injury playing for Gold Coast Titans at the weekend. Mathers is in the first year of a two year deal with the NRL's newest club and had recently broken into the starting line up. However, he will now require surgery on the opposite knee to the one he had a knee reconstruction on this time last year when he was with the Rhinos. The 23-year-old had just returned from a knee reconstruction last May which ruled him out of most of last season. After moving to Australia from Leeds at the end of last season, he continued his rehabilitation and came into the Titans team after an injury to first-choice full-back Preston Campbell. The injury is also set to rule Mathers out of playing in Great Britain's internationals against New Zealand in October. It is a devastating blow for Richie and we are sure that all Rhinos fans wish him well with his recovery and returning to the top of his game.
