Last season both sides met in the Carnegie Challenge Cup Final at Wembley in an epic encounter with Wigan snatching a last second draw through a Sam Tomkins penalty at Headingley Carnegie and hanging on for a win at the DW Stadium when Danny McGuire was denied a try in the closing minutes by video referee Steve Ganson.

Since the Warriors move to the DW Stadium at the end of the 1999 season, Leeds have managed to secure seven wins in all competitions in a total of 18 games with one draw, 12-12 in 2004. The Rhinos record of a 39% success rate at the DW Stadium is in stark contrast to their record at the old Central Park ground when Leeds won only half as many occasions with a 19% success rate. However, despite so much heart break at the famous old ground, the Rhinos actually won their last two league games at Central Park with Brad Godden inspiring them to victory in 1998 and Jamie Mathiou scoring a rare try in another win the following year.
