Nicola B

Dance Captain

You must all know me by now but for those who don't I'm Nicola, I joined the Rhinos dance team many years ago when I was just 16. I started out as one of the original Leeds Rhinos Dance Team dancers, I had a break from the team to go to University in Liverpool where I studied dance at LIPA, but as soon as I graduated I was back home and dancing with the team once again and was lucky enough to become Captain.

Being a part of the dance team has given me so many great opportunities and I'm really proud of the great reputation we have built for the team throughout the years. I'm also really pleased to see that dance is now becoming an integral part of the club with the launch of the Leeds Rhinos Junior Dance Academy. The Rhinestones has been a massive success and will celebrate it's 1st birthday in March, I now have well over 100 great girls coming to my dance classes each week.

As captain I get to choreograph the routines and I like to have a little fun and spice things up every now and again, I find the best way to do that is to throw the one and only Ronnie the Rhino into the mix he has got the moves! My favourite number with Ronnie so far has got to be You Can't Touch This, he was brilliant.

I have got loads of fun and a few embarrassing dance team memories but best of all I have met some really fab girls through the team.

Away from the Rhinos I like to keep busy! I do lots of dance teaching work and I also have my own promotions and entertainment company, Strawberry Split, with Amy Burrow past team member who has moved onto pastures new!

I'm really looking forward to this season and the next one and the next one after that, I think I'm going to be the oldest cheerleader in town…. I'm not sure I will ever be able to give it up so I'll just keep going until someone tells me otherwise!

Alex

Rhinos Dancer

Hi, I'm Alex, back again for my second season with the team! I didn't really know what to expect when I joined last year as a "newbie" but it has been so much fun and I can't wait for all the excitement to begin again this season!

Although performing on match days is so exhilarating and it is fantastic to support such a successful rugby team, it is rehearsing with a group of such great girls that is the highlight! I am extremely proud to be part of such a terrific team!

GOOOOOO RHINOS!!!!!

Alicia Johnson AKA: 'Lici'

Rhinos Dancer

I am currently training to be a hairdresser but as a hobby I love to dance! Following a successful audition I am now a member of the dance team for 2010. I was so pleased to make the squad as I have been dancing since I could walk and this is by far the best dance opportunity yet. I'm looking forward to having a successful season, cheering on the team, and meeting lots of new people!

Annie

Rhinos Dancer

Hey everybody! I'm Annie. This is my first season with the Rhinos girlies and so far I am loving it! I started dancing at the age of four, attending the Walsh School of Theatre and Dance, where I am now currently undertaking my dance teacher qualifications. Dancing is a huge part of my life and hopefully it will continue to be. When I am not dancing, I attend Leeds Trinity University, studying English. After completing my degree I hope to travel the big wide world and have lots of fun.

I am a happy outgoing person who is always up for a giggle. I have wanted to dance for the Rhinos for a long time and I am really chuffed to now be part of the squad. My first match on Boxing day was great although a little bit chilly. The atmosphere was fab! I cannot wait to support the Rhinos throughout the season. Anyway good luck boys! Hope you have yet another successful season!

Lots of Love

April

Rhinos Dancer

This is my first time dancing for the Radio Aire dance team. I'm so excited to be given the opporunity to cheer the Rhinos on! Even though this is my first time dancing for the team I have been dancing since the age of two; currently at Armley Dance Studios. Dancing plays a big part in my life and I have also performed in pantomimes at the City Varieties theatre as a result of this. It was a lot of fun to take part in.

I am currently studying for my A levels at Garforth College and hope to move onto University, with any luck to study Dance or English but I'm not maping my life out right away. I just want to take life as it comes and enjoy myself!

Hopefully Leeds will have another successful year and I wish all the players the best of luck. Come on Rhinos!

Becky

Rhinos Dancer

As most of you already know I'm Becks and this will be my third season with the Rhinos. I also go to Armley Dance Studios and have been there since the age of two, therefore I dance almost every day so I guess you would say dancing is my life! I'm at college at the moment hoping to go to University to study criminology next year, but my real ambition is to go abroad to do dancing or ultimately an aerialist acrobat aka (gymnastics/contortionist in the air), most of my mates know me as "Flexy Bexy!" I've recently started a circus school to do things I have never had the opportunity to before, this includes techniques such as silks and rope, hand balancing and broadening my skills in contortion.

Wouldn't say I've really had an embarrassing moment on the pitch, but the thing that stands out the most is when we did the Michael Jackson number with the yellow hats in my first season, at the end we threw our hats off, we went to get them when we had finished and mine had hit the sky camera man! I was left looking for a hat that wasn't even there because cheeky Ronnie had run off with it, so watch out Ronnie, revenge is sweet!!

It's a real pleasure and honour to dance for such a successful team and no doubt their success will carry on this year! I wish them all the best for this season, Good Luck Lads.

Christine

Rhinos Dancer

Hello! I'm Christine, and I'm happy to be back (again) as a dancer for Leeds Rhinos!

I first auditioned for the dance team in 1999 when I was at Leeds Dance College studying to qualify as a dance teacher. I was successful in the audition, joined the team and made a lot of new friends, including Kat and Nic, who are still here too! After I left college, I went dancing professionally for 3 years so had 3 seasons away from Headingley Carnegie, but kept in touch with all the girls, and was so happy to return to team in 2004 when I moved back to Leeds to be a dance teacher, and I've been lucky enough to be here every season ever since! I love dancing for Leeds Rhinos, we have great fun at rehearsals (as well as working very hard of course!) we are all good friends on the team, and it's lovely to meet new team members each season. We always have fun as a team be it at rehearsals, or on match days or travelling with Rhinos, I loved dancing in Murrayfield all those years ago, but we've also had a great time supporting the team at Millennium Stadium and Old Trafford.

I live in Guiseley with my boyfriend Tom, and co-run my own dancing school called "Starlight Academy". I love running my own business, and having my own dancing school is my childhood dream come true! As well as teaching at Starlight Academy I also teach in different schools, and choreograph the annual pantomime for Yeadon Charities, so basically do lots of dancing, and I love it!

I am looking forward to another season with Rhinos, and can't wait to hear the roar of the South Stand again - don't forget to give us a wave!

Christine.

Emily B

Rhinos Dancer

This is my second season dancing for the Rhinos and I'm really excited about the season ahead! I have to admit that until I became a member of the 96.3 Radio Aire Dance Team I hadn't ever really watched a rugby match but now I am well and truly addicted and also find I have something worthwhile to talk to my friends' dads about!

When I'm not dancing I work as a teacher. I teach dance at a High School in Knottingley as well as freelancing as a singing, acting and dance teacher at schools throughout Leeds and Kirklees. I love my job and am so lucky that what was once only a hobby has turned into a fantastic and exciting career.

I'm a bit of a workholic so don't have much 'me' time but when I do I like relaxing at home with a good DVD, a curry and a big bar of chocolate. I've also just bought my own house and I'm re-doing every single room to give it the 'Emily Touch'. So if I'm not at work you'll find me at home with a paint brush or a screwdriver (I'm too blonde to be let loose on an electric drill)!

It was fantastic that the Rhinos won last season so here's hoping they'll do it again!

Lots of Love

Rhinos Dancer

Hey I'm Julia, I'm 22 and I'm a new member of the 96.3 Radio Aire Dance team! I am at university studying psychology however dancing is my passion. I have been dancing since the age of three, I have trained professionally and I have also gained my dance teaching qualifications so I guess you could say dancing has always been a massive part of my life! I am a typical girl in the sense that I love shopping, dancing, socialising, and shopping and dancing a little bit more!
I am really excited to be dancing for the Rhinos this year, my first match was on Boxing Day last year and I loved every minute of it! I love performing so it's great to dance in front of such a huge audience and with such a fab dance team. I'm very much looking forward to the rest of the season with some of the best fans and players! Let's hope it's a good one - Good Luck Lads!

Kat

Rhinos Dancer

Hi again…..10 seasons under my belt and I'm lookin forward to the 11th and yes - I'm still lovin' every minute of it!! As most of you know by now..............
I started dancing at Rhinos after seeing an advert for the auditions in a dance shop when I was 16yrs old and still at school - that really does feel like a long time ago now ………….- enough of that I'm starting to sound really old now!

Since then I've supported the Rhinos at events such as the Challenge Cup, World Club Challenge…etc, I've visited many stadiums Millennium, Murrayfield, Wembley to name a few (of course the favourite being our very own Headingley Carnegie Stadium) I've seen plenty of highs and a few lows, all alongside our Super League Champions.

After my A-Levels, at age 18 I went on to dance on Cruise ships and see the world. I did two contracts, one around Florida and the Bahamas and the other around the Med. In between I came home for a while and was lucky enough to be part of the dance team again.

I then had a few months out in Australia as my Boyfriend Danny Mills (Sheffield Eagles) was out there doing a season of rugby league for 'Casino' in NSW. We had a great time and got some sunshine, but after experiencing life both on and across the sea when I got home I decided to put down some roots.

We bought a house just after my 21st B'day and I've been local ever since - once again I couldn't wait to get back to Headingley Carnegie and back with the dance team!

Since settling down I ran a cleaning company for a few years and have recently changed paths again to become Store manager at Missy, a Ladies retail shop in Horsforth. Dancing is an added extra to my hectic schedule and I'm there week after week come rain or even snow and I LOVE IT!!!

The girls on the squad are all great, we have lots of fun at rehearsals. Training with the girls is without doubt the best part about being a dancer at Rhinos and with the buzz on match day - it's ace!

Any way enough of me rambling on :
'Good Luck to the boys! Let's have another great season!' See you all at the game - give us a wave! Big hugs Kat xxxx

Kelly

Rhinos Dancer

Hi, I'm Kelly and I joined the dance team mid way through last season, although I have been a huge Rhinos fan for years.

After graduating from Newcastle University with a degree in Physiology, I started dancing full time. I was lucky enough to travel the world as a dance captain on a cruise ship. As amazing as it was to spend my days laying on tropical beaches, and of course the best part, getting to dance every evening, I missed my beloved Rhinos! So now I am back in Leeds where I live with my little dog.

I had such a great time with the girls last season and hope this season will be as much fun, and of course as successful for the lads too!

Laura S

Rhinos Dancer

So here we are again guys! Back for another season and this time you may recognise me as the bright red head! For those who don't know, my names Laura and i'm 22. I work at a hairdressers in town as receptionist and I've been dancing with the Rhinos for three years now and looking forward to what's to come this season! It's been a good year me for me on the dance team, especially as I am now teaching at the Rhinestones Dance Academy. Its great to teach all the girlies and the best part is seeing them perform on the pitch when they have worked so hard. So hopefully there will be more performances to come from them this season! I hope this year brings us more wins and great games (as always!) and I look forward to dancing at the matches with the other girls. xx

Mary

Rhinos Dancer

I'm Mary and this will be my second season with the Rhinos Dance Team. Dancing is my life . Along with dancing for the Rhinos I am doing a foundation course in Dance in Leeds, it's great I get to dance all day every day.
Dancing is my passion so I feel really lucky that I get to do it on such a great stage or turf... and before of such a huge audience.

One of my highlights from last season was dancing with Ronnie the Rhino in the number "Call On me" it was a crowd favourite. I've made loads of new friends since joining the Radio Aire Dance team and I'm sure this year I will make even more now we have welcomed so many new recruits.

I'm really looking forward to dancing for the Rhinos again. Good luck to the Rhinos!

Olivia

Rhinos Dancer

A few months ago I auditioned with lots of other girls to join the Rhinos dance team and yaay... just look at me now! I still can't believe how lucky I am.

Nicola and the rest of the girls have made me feel so welcome and, of course, they've been putting us all through our paces at boot camp so that we're on it for the start of the 2010 season to cheer the boys on to even more success.

At just 16 years, I'm the baby of the bunch this season so go easy on me if I make a fool of myself when it gets muddy out there. Seriously, I'm dreading my first fall on a big Super League night in the rain but don't worry because I'll be straight up with a big smile on my face and back on with the routine :-).

Like the other girls, I've been dancing and performing ever since I could walk. The usual stuff like ballet and modern although I'm now competing in ballroom and Latin dance competitions and have been even since before "Strictly" appeared on the telly

I attend the Edmonds Dance and Fitness school in Kirkstall where I'm part-way through my Dance Teacher's Award and already give occasional classes in freestyle; street dance and Hip-Hop to the younger students. I love choreographing new routines and seeing the end result and that's maybe what I want to do in the future. For now, I'm trying to get through my GCSEs at Abbey Grange and wishing I was 18 so I could go clubbing with the others - badtimes.

I'm very much a local girl with a "Leeds... Live it - Love it" attitude, so catch me in town and say "hi" whenever you see me. Here's hoping the dance team can help keep the streak going so come on Rhinos... Marching On Together, we're gonna see you win, Na na na na na!

Rhinos Dancer

Time has flown by since I joined the Rhinos' dance team and it's now my fourth season! I have loved meeting all of the other girls and having a laugh with them whilst doing something we all enjoy; dancing! However, the best thing about being on the team is the exciting atmosphere on a match day and the buzz that you get from dancing in front of such a large crowd. I'm currently in my last year of Sixth Form and am sad to say that this is going to be my last season for a while as I'm heading off to university next year but hopefully you should see me back again sometime in the future! It's been fantastic to support a team as successful as the Rhinos with them become the engage Super League Champions for three consecutive years; fingers crossed for this year! Best of luck xx

Shereen

Rhinos Dancer

Hello everyone, I am brand new to the team this season and am so excited to perform at first game. I have been training with the rest of the girls for the past month and they are all fantastic and have made me feel more then welcome.

So I suppose I should tell you a little bit about Shereen! I am 25 years old and was born and raised in sunny Essex. I can't really remember when I first started dancing but my mum says it was before I could walk hee hee, so I think it's fair to say dancing has always been my passion.

After years of training in a stage school I joined the sky sports dance team at the age of 17. This was my first real experience of professional dance work and I loved it. I got to dance at lots of major sporting events and travel all over the country.

After spending three years with the team I decided to move to Newcastle to do a degree in dance. I loved Newcastle and the course. Whilst I was studying I managed to get a lot of part time working teaching dance in schools and gyms, which gave me lots of great experience. After five fabulous years in Newcastle I decided it was time for me to try somewhere different so I applied for a job with camp America as a dance teacher and got it.

So in June 2009 I jetted of to the big apple itself (New York City) and was there for three months teaching kids to dance. It was by far the most incredible experience of my life. I came back from the states in September and within 2 weeks moved to Leeds to start my final year at Uni. I didn't know anybody here at first so getting a place on the Leeds Rhinos cheerleading squad was superb for me. I am loving everything about Leeds and am so proud to be a part of the team. I can't wait to see you all at the game. Don't forget to give us a wave. Good luck to the boys and fingers crossed for a great season.

Tiffany

Rhinos Dancer

This is now my second season dancing for the Leeds Rhinos and i'm more excited than ever! I have been dancing since the age of three and started my dance training at the Keldon School of Dance. The dance school helped me develop my dance skills and gave me the opportunity to enter in various dance festivals/competitions where I won loads of medals and trophies! I then went on to college and completed my First Diploma and National Certificate in Dance at Park Lane College in Leeds. One of my proudest dance moments was when I was 12 and came runner up in the West Yorkshire tap championship, another is getting in the team for a second season!

As well as dancing on the pitch I work for a company called Strawberry Split (run by Nic and Amy) in which I had the opportunity to dance in front of the cast from Hollyoaks, Eastenders, Emmerdale and more!

I'm currently working as a make-up consultant for Estee Lauder, but dancing for the champions is what I love to do best! I'm very excited to part of the Radio Aire Dance team and wish all the players the best of luck for the season! x
