In association with Leeds City Council, Leeds and Hunslet schools, Leeds and District Amateur Rugby League Clubs.
The Leeds Rhinos Girls Rugby League Community Development programme was set up in 2006 by the Leeds Rugby Foundation with the overall aim to encourage more women and girls from the local community to play the sport.
Since 2006 the Women and Girls programme has created opportunities for thousands of girls to participate in Rugby League.
The programme is now offered to thirty-nine secondary schools across Leeds to girls who are mainly in Year 7 and has a focus on touch rugby, giving the girls a great fast energetic game to play with opportunities to continue onto the contact elements of the game.
The programme is headed up by Leeds Rugby Community Development Officer Sian Hills and follows a four week structure where girls learn basic ball handling and passing skills through to game play and ends in a festival between the other local schools.
The Leeds Rugby Foundation runs festivals throughout the year for girls in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10. Updates of the latest festivals or events will be posted on here so please keep looking.
The Leeds Rhinos Girls Rugby League Community Development programme also works to support schools entering the Carnegie Champion Schools Competition, a tournament run by the RFL in partnership with English Schools Rugby League.
We have opportunities for volunteer coaches and referrers if you are interested please contact Sian Hills via email at sian.hills@leedsrugby.com
