The Leeds Rhinos Learning Centre is situated to the West of the Headingley Carnegie Stadium overlooking the famous rugby ground. This superb, modern facility boasts a large classroom/activity room and a well-equipped ICT suite. The ICT suite includes 17 PCs, two interactive whiteboards and a ‘hand-held’ voting system.
Young people from local Primary & High Schools have been attending for ‘out of school hours’ learning since the centre opened in 2005.
The main educational course the pupils attend after school is called ‘Playing for Success’.
The aim of ‘Playing for Success’ is to raise pupil achievement in English, maths and ICT skills. Experienced and qualified teachers deliver the content of each learning session.
This ‘PfS’ course runs at over 120 learning centres in England. All the centres are based in sports stadiums. The Leeds Rhinos Learning Centre was the first ‘rugby’ centre to open in the country. Other educational courses run during the daytime and local pupils attend the centre to use the computers and the classroom on a daily basis.
We have a group of volunteer mentors who come along to help the pupils with their learning during ‘PfS’ sessions.
If you need further information on the centre or wish to volunteer as a mentor, then please contact Louise Maciag, our centre administrator, on 0113 2399720 or email admin@headingleylearning.org.uk.
Minibus appeal
Ringways Ford are very kindly supporting The Leeds Rhinos Learning Centre by providing us with a fantastic new minibus. The Leeds Rugby Foundation are working with the Learning Centre to raise funds to pay for the bus through matchday collections. All funds raised will go straight to the minibus appeal, helping to transport our pupils safely from school then home again after the sessions.
